Briavent Ltd. ("we", "us") is the data controller for the Scanbar mobile application ("the App") within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We do not operate any servers that process user data. The App does not require registration or an account.

2. What Data We Process

a) Data stored on your device only

Scan history, generated codes, batch reports, labels, and app settings are stored locally on your device. We have no access to this data. Uninstalling the App deletes it entirely.

b) Product lookups

When you scan a product barcode, the App sends the barcode number to the Open Food Facts public database to retrieve product information. No personal data is included in this request.

c) Analytics (consent-based)

If you grant permission via iOS App Tracking Transparency, we collect anonymous usage data through Firebase Analytics (Google LLC). This includes: app opens, session duration, screen views, and crash data. No names, emails, or personally identifiable information is collected.

d) Advertising (consent-based)

We display ads through Google AdMob. If you consent to tracking, AdMob may use device identifiers (IDFA) for personalized ads. If you decline, only contextual (non-personalized) ads are shown. AdMob may use cookies or similar technologies within the App.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (Art. 6 GDPR)

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Analytics and personalized advertising are only enabled after you explicitly consent via the iOS tracking prompt. You may withdraw consent at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
• Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): Displaying non-personalized ads to fund the free App; processing barcode lookups to provide core functionality.
• Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing necessary to deliver the App's features you requested (scanning, generating, exporting).

4. International Data Transfers

Firebase Analytics and Google AdMob are operated by Google LLC (USA). Data transferred to the US is protected under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Google is a certified participant. For details, see Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

• Local data: Retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
• Analytics data: Retained by Google for 14 months, then automatically deleted.
• Ad data: Managed by Google per their advertising policies.

7. Your Rights Under GDPR

You have the right to:

• Withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)) — at any time, without affecting prior processing

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority in your EU member state of residence.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

This website (scanbar.eu) uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to collect anonymous usage data (pages visited, time on site, referral source). Analytics cookies are only activated after you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.

The App may use local storage and identifiers managed by Google AdMob and Firebase. These are only active if you grant tracking permission. You control this via iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. We do not collect personal data from any user — all scan data is stored locally on the device. Analytics and advertising are only enabled with explicit consent from the device owner.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App or legal requirements. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. For material changes, we will notify users through the App.
